Saddam Hussein Execution Video Online

He isn’t dead for 48 hours yet and still the first cellphone-shot videos of the execution appear on the internet. While I see that a need is felt to show it to the masses, I believe it’s best to not do it. No matter how cruel the mass murderer being executed was, the images of that very act should not be shown publicly on TV.

Here’s why. If showing execution footage publicly is tolerated, we are back to the middle ages where executions took place as a sunday attraction to locals. I believe no one will argue that the moral standards back then were higher compared to those today. The last thing an already numbed and dumbed down society needs is losing the last remaining bits of respect for death.

You will find that some of the uploaders chose rather drastic and macabre metadata descriptions: “Includes the drop!” That’s what I mean with losing respect for death – it simply becomes an attraction. It’s like porn for neo-cons.
