I just read this on the Disco development blog:
The next version of Disco will include full smoke support for almost every Mac out there. This represents the last remaining milestone towards putting out Disco 1.0. (source)
Wow. The last remaining milestone towards version 1.0. Well, I guess I can safely assume Disco won’t actually be usable for little more than burning a static set of files before it hits version 3.0. By the time that happens, Disco will have evolved into a full blown entertainment-center-flashing-lights-do-all-and-nothing application that looks great, acts weird and actually won’t let you do anything with a real point to it.
Really a shame, it showed much potential. Hopefully this will stand out as a example for how not to design Mac applications. If other developers follow their lead, we’re going to be flooded with non-standard non-useful applications for unreasonable prices. The exact opposite of what the Mac platform should be about. I still have hope that the market will regulate itself and people will not buy into something of as little worth as Disco is right now.
