Disco Developers Delete Critizism From Blog

DiscoI’ve had it with Disco. Earlier I wrote about how to make it better very simple but now I’m done with it.

Two days ago I wrote a comment on their development blog regarding the shortcomings of Disco, a software I paid for blindly though macZOT. It got deleted. To be more precise: it never got approved, because it’s a moderated blog. While I knew the gamble with macZOT and mystery software, I did not expect Disco to come out as bad as it is and I certainly did not expect such behaviour from its developers. They obviously cannot accept direct critizism.

Because of Disco’s shortcomings, I feel it is my right (as a paying customer) to critizise the developers for the constant ignorance they present regarding my questions and suggestions towards the issue of not being able to use more than 29 characters max in the disc name. I mean, this is a function that is as basic as it could probably get. You shouldn’t build upon a base that is anything but stable. But instead of fixing that, they focus on extending a feature called Discography which can catalog discs you have burned to be able to find what you burned on them later. While this indeed sounds like a great idea, it instantly gets useless when you cannot even resize the window to see more than a couple of rows of information. All that luxury of bigger screens and no way to use it.

Here’s the comment I wrote:

Screw it. For me Disco is dead for the time being. Major issues are not addressed instead the focus lies on eye candy, form over function. If I did not get my license via macZOT, I’d never shell out money for it. I’m sticking with Burn. It’s better and it’s free. Really. I have both programs available but I choose Burn every time. Using Disco ist frustrating for me. Both Disco and Burn use the build in Disc Recording framework anyway. Plus I really don’t see any improvement over already available free software that would justify a price tag of $14.95, let alone $24.95. But maybe this will change some day. I sincerely hope so.

I even posted a typo I made to not pretty things up. Yeah, I can really see why someone would not want that comment to show up anywhere. It’s way out of line. Right.

Grow up, Disco developers. You are a talented bunch, act like it.
